Costume idea no idea where to place it!

I need your help Cutiutandkeep.com!!! Y'all are some of the smartest craftiest people I know and other websites have failed me. I am creating a costume...a Steampunk Charizard costume. I got a buddy of mine rendering a drawing but for now it's all in my upstairs area. Here is my post from Cosplay.com though nobody has replied to it the unhelpful fools. Thanks for any advice or help!!!

So I got this epiphany and I know what costume I wish to create for myself. A steam punk charizard!!! Some of the details are sketchy in my mind but for the most part I know what the design will look like. I figure I can use PVC pipe to create the wings and make the tail into a "rocket". What I need help designing is this...1) General color/clothing to wear, 2) how to color the PVC a burnt copper/metal look, 3) How to give the appearance of fire at the end of the "rocket" tail, 4) And the well...leather/middle part of the wings what material and attaching it to the collapsable wings.

The picture above is steampunk_charizard_by_dragon_ryder on Deviant Art.
I thought it had some good ideas to it Happy

1) General color/clothing to wear- Orange underneath, maybe a jump suit/coveralls that are dyed orange and then you can sew/hot glue on the tan belly and under-tail fabric.

2) how to color the PVC a burnt copper/metal look- easy peasy, you just paint it with a dark redish/brown paint, then dry brush over the top a great copper colored metallic paint. That way only some of the shine shows up and it looks burnt or antiqued.

3) How to give the appearance of fire at the end of the "rocket" tail- honestly I have no idea for that one, maybe if you posted you friends drawing we might be able to see what your thinking of. But I really liked the idea that the artist who did the above picture came up with. The plates of armour down the back, then you could do a electrical flame like he drew or a reg flame at the end of the tail.

4)The leather/middle part of the wings what material and attaching it to the collapsable wings- again I reallt like the idea for the inner wings in the picture above Happy how they have it all patch worked looking. You could do this by buying a large piece of cheap fabric, cutting it to the size/shape of your wings and then glueing/hand sewing a bunch of "patches" on top where ever you felt like. Then to attach the cloth to the wing frame, I would do something like add a length of ribbon/cord to the top of the fabric wing every few inches so then you can wrap the ribbon/cord around the pvc frame and tie it tightly. Then you could add a dab of glue to hold them in the right place Happy

Ok I hope that helps Happy good luck!

Soon as he gets back from dragon con I'll get a picture. But first off he'll yea and thank you for all that info! I was thinking the paint would rub off was my only concern. For fire I was thinking maybe a wire frame design with red cerain wrap and a light fixture behind it. The wings I hope can be collapsable. I'll let ya know soon as I get a picture design and how thinks go.

Sweet! Yeah if your worried about the paint on the pvc rubbing off, just buy some kind of top coat protector. Like a clear finish or somthing. As long as you are being crazy rough with it I bet you wouldnt have any issues with paint though.
