hi, you can get a special varnish for polymer clay in a matt (non shiney) or gloss (shiney) finish. I know fimo do some but it's a bit expensive. There are cheaper equivilants, I'd ask at a craft store Happy

Check out http://www.artsncrafts-ideas.com/fimo-modelling-clay.php

it says not to use nail varnish as it can react with the chemicals. It also says to use their brand so you wont have chemical reations. Think they may just want to sell their product though. I've used other stuff and it's been ok. Just make sure the room is well ventilated.

ive used nail polish, but it turned white for some reason. xD (i was able to wipe it off; it was this white powdery substance..... anyway)

ive also used decoupage medium, and nothing at all. i bet just about anything would work, even like a clear ceramic top coat.

I often use clear acrylic spray, made by "Carplan" or Krylon, sold as clear top coat for car paint,.... or Humbrol Just Clear acrylic spray. Dries within minutes.
For a really shiny thicker coating I sometimes use Envirotex Lite or Crystal Sheen polymer resins, brushed on. These need at least 24 hours to set properly.

I use Sculpey glaze, in Satin or Gloss finish, which is the best as it is suited for polyer clay. Any glaze that has usage for polymer clay will work, and won't leave a film or color change!
