Historical Sewing Ideas

I'm entering a costume contest type of thing for a theater conference for high school this month... Thes Con for those familiar with the stage world. I need to fully construct a size 8 garment for a character. I chose Emily from Our Town, Act 1. The basic details I've though of is a jumper dress, an off white shirt with mid length gathered keyhole sleeves, and some hand stitched detailing in the collar. I'm open to any more ideas you think of, which could help to broaden my design.
The play is set in 1901, and the character is an 11 year old student in a small town in Massachusets. She's very bright, and is the daughter of a doctor. She marries a boy 3 years later. Thanks for reading/ perhaps assisting me in this.
