  • How to make a baby carriers. Toy Baby Carrier - Step 1
    Step 1

For the body piece: this you have to measure the length of your child. The cut out a form that its 10.5" in. on the top and bottom. Make inward curves to connect to get this shape.

For straps: I did a 2"in. strap as long as I could cause that depends on how big you want to make it over all. I made it big enough where it can reduce and when he grow we can adjust to fit.

For belt/waist buckle: 3"in. wide by 16"in. long made a curve at the bottom like out carrier but you can just have it a long rectangular shape, will work just a fine.

Trace over to your fabric, make sure pretty sides together. For the main fabric I got my smitten scrap woven materials that was given to me from a giveaway. And the inner fabric is a space theme cotten . Make sure to use fabric that is breathable for your little ones.

Before you cut make sure to give yourself seam allowance , this way while sewing you will have wiggle room just in case you mess up.

For the belt/waist part and straps this part is optional *
I wanted to make it somewhat closed to our carrier so we bought foam to add to the straps and waist part so you may want to cut out some that are about a smaller size that the actual fabric so it fits in after sewing.

I recommend to keep everything pinned down so the fabrics don't move its much easier in the long run.

Body peice: sew both sides and the bottom closed . On top only see the center. Leave 2"in. gaps on each corner . This is where the straps will be connected. Turn inside out so pretty fabric is visible.

Straps: sew the long sides close , leave both ends open. Turn inside out so pretty fabric is visible. You may want to use a safty pin to get it turned easier.

Waist: sew the bottom and about 2.5"-3"inches on the top corners. Leave the center top open so you can insert your foam piece if you are doing this route if not you can sew it closes. Make sure to leave the ends open that is so you can sew your cord and buckles afterwards.

Cut foam accordingly, good thing about this is that if too big its easy to cut and adjust for a better fit.

    Step 7

Insert your foam to the belt/waist section and insert the bottom of the body piece and pin down. Fold raw edges in so that everything looks like one clean seam. Sew on a slow setting so you get every piece sewn today. You can sew on top of foam it won't hard your machine.

    Step 8

Insert the strap foam piece into your strap fabric. I sew a ling down the middle to make it looks like how backpack straps are. You don't have to its just an option. Adjust the strap size to your child, and insert it to those 2"in gaps on the top of the body piece. Pin and sew together.

    Step 9

Add your cord and the closure clips to the end of the straps. You may want to secure the closure clip at the end so it won't fall out.

    Step 10

Sew the other half of the closure clips with the cord making a small loop on the sides of the body piece, once again the placement of this will determine on where you want it for your child.

And the last of the closure clips are to be sewn on the ends of the belt/waist piece . If foam is in the way just cut it out to fit. Sew everything up and you are done!
