They are so beautiful...and the colors you've chosen are so happy! How do you keep them so consistent in size? Are you wrapping them around anything to wind them on?

You just need your fingers to wind them on (in fact the hard edge you get passing throug the flame could be very useful to start it), and keeping it really tight. To get the consistency in size use the same number of ribbons in each bead and that's it.

Varnish is something that provides an even surface and a glossy and transparent appearence, and in this case rigidity too.
