Use your old, empty makeup compacts and lids to upcycle your sunglasses!

Super FAUX fun! These are RIDICULOUS compared to my REAL Chanels, but they were sure fun to make!

In NO WAY are these meant to be a substitute for the REAL THING. This is a cheap, trashion DIY! Well, cheap if you already have/use Chanel makeup. The cost of the amount of makeup/empties pictured could have bought me a new, authentic pair.

Bonus: Cleaning out all the empty, broken makeup compacts and putting them to good use! I have a gazillion of them...

I'm thinking my Dior and Versace empties will meet a similar fate in the future. :D

Instructions

  1. Step 1 1

    Gather your supplies.

The sunglasses are all big frame styles that I found at my local Dollar Tree store. Sweeeeeeeeet!

  2. Step 2 2

Clean lids and compact cases. Dismantle by removing insides of lids and compact mirrors.

TIP: Use your wire cutters to slightly crack lids and cases to aid in removal if you have trouble.

  3. Step 3 3

This pair of sunglasses has a faux buckle. Cut a piece of aluminum tape to cover buckle and make it appear silver.

OR... if the arms of your sunglasses are plain, skip to step 6.

  4. Step 4 4

Cover buckle with aluminum tape and carefully trim with a sharp x-acto knife.

TIP: use the handle of your x-acto to burnish the tape and remove bubbles or wrinkles.

  5. Step 5 5

Repeat step 4 on the other side.

  6. Step 6 6

Using your wire cutters, CAREFULLY start snipping SMALL pieces of the lid/compact away until you reach the size needed to fit the arm of your sunglasses.

*CAUTION* do this step s-l-o-w-l-y so you do not break the lid and ruin the logo. Take small pieces using tiny nips with the cutter. And wear protective eyewear!

  7. Step 7 7

Glue your lid/compact piece into place.

*Optional*: File or dremel the sharp edges before gluing into place.

  8. Step 8 8

If the arms on your sunglasses are plain, you may want to trim the logo piece with rhinestones, pearls, flower petals, chain... whatever inspires you!

ENJOY YOUR NEW FUN FAUX SUNNIES!
