Paint a coat of primer and let dry. Patience is necessary in this project. And if you're smart, repeat this step once, maybe twice. I was not. And ended up paying the price in the end (with 4 coats of paint).

I was recommended the Pittsburgh Paints Univeral Sealgrip 100% Acrylic Primer by a lovely gentleman (who used to be a commercial painter) at Menards.

Paint a coat of your desired paint color and let dry. Repeat until you get the desired amount of coverage.

I was also recommended, by the same gentleman, to use Grand Distinction Interior Latex Semi-Gloss Enamel paint from Pittsburgh Paints for my paint color. So I did.
