The monogram coaster is the first one I did with permanent markers, which bleed, so this is a trial and error thing. I have made others using my woodburner, which turned out rather neat.

Lay out coaster(s) on wax paper. If you use a plastic bag, cut off handles and the bottom and up the side of the bag to have one layer. Coat finished piece with varnish using manufacturer's instructions. You can add as many coats as you like to get the darkest shade or shine you want. I didn't do the sanding part in between coats.

Thanks guys, yeah, I bought those freaking sticks and for the longest time couldn't think of anything to do with them. I have same problem with a stack of color foam sheets. They will sit and stare at me until I create something with them.

I have an enormous stack of sticks! With three kids that refuse to throw out their popsicle sticks...(ew????) I run them through the dishwasher and have been saving them for years! Too bad I don't draw as well as you! Well done!!! :-)

Stencils are good to use instead of drawing an image free hand.
