i'm not sure how a sealant would work. a small test piece might be the best way to see the results.

I'm concerned about the crayons chipping off when I give it away as a christmas gift. Do you think a sealant would work-maybe Mod Podge?

i think paper would be too light unless it was cardstock perhaps. no idea if pastels would work. give it a try and find out, i guess

If you want to have some real fun, use a hot griddle (mine is covered by a disposable foil cookie sheet) and shave bits of crayon onto the pan to melt. Then, lay your paper in it, and peel off. Neat effects from the suction. You can also lay the paper on the griddle to get hot, and draw with the crayons, or manipulate the wax with sticks, brushes (dedicated only to wax, of course) or other tools.

I love this! I'm going to go to the local dollar tree and get a hot glue gun do I can try it both ways. As much as I hate Walmart I think I'll go get crayons there since they are having their back to school sale and they are only $.25 a box. I'm sure my 8 yr old would like to make one too! I love the way yours came out.

Blow the hot air from the blow dryer on the crayons and they will melted. High heat will make the work faster but will cause the melting to move around a bit. Patience and a lower setting will cause straighter lines. Holding the blow dryer up and angling it down helps the straight lines as well.

Could you go into a little more detail on how you melted the wax and made it run down the canvas please? Happy

you need something that can stand the weight of the crayons and remain up when blow drying it (unless you do it laying down... hmmm). cardstock might work with a handful of crayons but probably not a lot.
i got my canvas from the dollarstore for $2 (it came with a little paint set that i gave away).

Do you need to use an actual canvas or can you use paper (printer paper) or cardstock?

I saw this on pinterest too!!! Love that site! I heard you can also put the crayons in a hotglue gun but apparently it will ruin your hotglue gun. But if you have a old crappy one then you're set!

i read somewhere someone left in in their car until the crayons started to sweat. i guess if you didn't want it finished quickly then sitting it outside in hot weather would work... only, my hot weather is gone...

Wow, I wonder how to get the crayons initially heated so that they might melt a bit easier with the hair dryer, which I believe would be mostly for moving the wax down the canvas. I must experiment!!

I'm thinking I need to go to poundland, and buy cheap crayons. I think I'm gonna try sellotaping the crayons to the canvas, so they can be removed afterwards Happy Then I can use them for new projects, thanks for the inspir!!

These are fun! I tried one this way, and one with the crayons through the glue gun method. They actually turn out completely different, if you can find an old glue gun at a thrift store it's definitely worth the attempt -- although I'd do this outside or in a very newspaper-proofed place!

I used the glue gun to glue between the crayons and that little mess on my gun kinda upset me, I don't see me ever putting a crayon through the gun. bleck!
