Masala chai is a delicious alternative to coffee or other herbal teas, and a great choice for when the weather cools down.
This is an aromatic, Indian style black tea that contains many spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, black pepper, etc. You can also add a shot of brandy to the tea to make a drink I call a Shangri-La.

  • Step 1

Heat 6 oz. of water in a tea cup or coffee mug. I put it in the microwave for 3 minutes.

  • Step 2

While the water is heating, heat about 3 Tbs of milk on low in a small saucepan or briki (the small copper pot shown in the picture. Make sure the milk only becomes warm, so that it does not boil, burn, or form a skin.

  • Step 3

Steep the chai spiced black tea bag in the hot water for 5 minutes.

  • Step 4

Add the milk and 1 tsp of sugar, or however much you would like. If you want more spice, you can add a dash of cardamom, nutmeg, and/or cinnamon.
