Recycle and Alter old serving trays

I wanted a magnetic board for my children to use some educational magnets on. I did some brain storming and came up with this idea

Crafts

Instructions

  1. Step 1 1

Start by sanding the tray down a little with fine sandpaper to remove any rust or uneven spots. It also gives the paint a slightly rough surface to grip to

This tray was being used as a planter base in my Mother-inlaw's garden

  2. Step 2 2

Paint the tray with a base coat. I used a Nippon Paint Multi-Purpose 4 in 1 Prep Coat that I had at hand already. This will give the tray a nice clean slate and stop any of the original paint or decal showing through the finished project. I gave mine 3 coats, with drying time in between each one

  3. Step 3 3

After the base coat is dry, paint with your desired colour(s) and then coat with a sealer after it's dry. I used Wattyl Estapol Matt in a spray can that was hiding with the yellow paint

  4. Step 4 4

Attach a picture hook or ribbon to the back of the tray and hang it
