Make a quick, lightweight cotton scarf
This scarf started as a way to use up some fabrics from my extensive stash. I design my own fabric, but still like to collect other people’s designs as well!
I used three pieces of fabric. The patterned Japanese piece was a small fat quarter, I had a slightly larger amount of the grey and a bigger piece of the pink. When choosing your fabrics you just need to ensure that each one is at least 45cm wide and that the total length of all of them put together is 2 metres (plus seam allowances - I added 1.5cm to each edge).
You'll also need a sewing machine, thread, pins, hand sewing needle and an iron. The scarf took me less than an hour to make so you can always run one up in the morning to wear out in the afternoon!

Step 1
Press all of your fabric pieces and then pin them in a strip, right sides together.
Step 2
Stitch with a 1.5cm seam allowance. Then tie off the ends and press the seams open.
Step 3
You should now have a strip which is just over 2m long and 45cm wide. Fold this in half longways, taking care to ensure the seams match up, and press - then pin right along the long edge.
Step 4
Stitch the long seam, again with a 1.5cm allowance and tie off the ends. Pull through so the right side is showing.
Step 5
Tuck the fabric in at both ends, Press in place then pin.
Step 6
Top stitch the ends closed with a 0.5cm allowance, sew the ends in with the hand needle then finish your scarf off with another good press.
