  Step 1

  Directions for large hat:
  (Please note that I used only one color but this was designed to use three (3) colors)

  Using color A, ch 4 and join with sl st to form a ring.

  Rnd 1: Ch1, 10 hdc in ring, join, cut off yarn. Join color B.

  Rnd 2: Ch 1, 2 hdc in 2nd st from hook, 2 hdc in ea st to end, join. (20 sts). Cut off yarn. Join color C.

  Rnd 3: Ch 1, *(1 hdc in next st, 2 hdc in next st), repeat from * around, join. (30 sts). Cut off yarn. Join color A.

  Rnd 4: Ch 3, *(1 dc in next st, ch 1) repeat from * around, join. (30 sts).

  Rnd 5: Ch 4, *(1 dc in next st, ch 2), repeat from * around. (30 sts)

  Rnds 6-7: Repeat Rnd 5. Cut off yarn. Join color B.

  Rnds 8-11: Repeat Rnd 5. Cut off yarn. Join color C.

  Rnds 12-15: Repeat Rnd 5.

  Rnd 16: Ch 2, *(1 hdc in next ch-2 sp, 1 hdc in next st), repeat from * around, join.
  Don’t fasten off.

  Step 2

  Add elastic:
  Weave the elastic through the last rnd, then cover it using color C.
  To cover the elastic, using a size H/8 hook and two (2) strands of yarn, join the yarn in the last stitch you worked with the right side facing you. Ch 1, go through next st, *[yo, pull through (2 loops on hook), yo go through next st, yo, pull through (4 loops on hook), yo, pull through all 4 loops, yo, go through same st]*. Repeat from * all the way around the hat, then join with sl st.
