I've been searching for a big jewelry box for a long time. All my jewelry kept getting tangled in the storage I had before. I found this really old jewelry box at Goodwill for $4! It has all these amazing compartments and dividers. Only one problem, it was ugly and the painted wood on the top was starting to come off. But I decided to DIY and bring it home to see if I could make the outside as great as the inside. I think it turned out pretty great. Most of the time went into the waiting for the different layers to dry.
1
I bought a jewelry box at a thrift store for four dollars. The edges had started to come up so the outside looked like a real mess.
2
It had an awesome inside with lots of room for all my jewelry
3
The first thing I did was tear of the top layer wich was fake wood and foam.

Now that the top is all smooth you now have a clean canvas to start painting. You may need to sand the top just in case there is some glue still stuck on.
5
I used the left over paint from my room so it matched but I'm sure any kind would work. I put on about four coats of the blue paint.
6
Now add as many or as little embellishments and details that you want. I did green and white polka dots and free handed my first initial.
7
I also stenciled keys in the two bottom corners and added a few rhinestones.

Lastly add all your wonderful jewelry to your new jewelry box that matches your personality. :)
