a project that's a real piece of cake ;D
i have 2 baby showers to go to & decided to make a diaper cake for one of them. i fell in love with a toy from one of the registries, jaques the peacock [i simply love creative [french] wordplay & could not resist, despite how pricey he was!], so i decided to make it themed around his colors, but geared toward a girl.
i have no previous diaper-cake experience so this is actually a really cute, cheapie, easy, & useful gift to give!

Step 1
take your diapers & roll them inward from one end. secure with a rubber band in the center of the diaper.

repeat until all of your diapers are banded

stand up about 7 or 8 diapers in a circular pattern & put one large rubber band around all of them. add/adjust diapers to make it into the top layer of your "cake."

repeat the previous step, only with more diapers, to make your bottom layer.

Step 5after you are satisfied with your layers, make sure that all of your diapers facing the outside of each layer do not have the ends sticking out (the part circled in red should be facing the inside of your cake so that all you see are smooth diapers)

trace a large serving plate on a piece of cardboard & cut out to serve your "cake" on

cover the cardboard in wrapping paper, aluminum foil, anything pretty!

now it's time to wrap your layers!
i suggest NOT using wrapping paper, like i did-- it turned out being the hardest part of the entire process for me. instead you can use fabric or tissue paper in the colors that go with your theme. they are MUCH easier to form to your circular layers. -
Step 9
after both layers are wrapped, put your chopsticks, or if you're super crafty- dowels, through each layer to hold the cake together (if you are using fabric plan ahead so that you can make holes for each chopstick/dowel to go through). make sure to put it through your cardboard serving plate, as well.

now that all of your layers are together, add your stuffed toy [securing him to your chopsticks/dowels with ribbon] & tie a ribbon for the front of the cake

glue gun your various travel sized items & ribbon on the bottom of each layer

wrap in cellophane or whatever you'd like

marvel at how cute it came out & take a nap =D
