Dog lovers will adore this gorgeous collection of clothing and accessories to knit, crochet, and sew for their favorite pets. This exploration covers a range of contemporary, classic, and retro styles, including a cable-stitched turtleneck sweater, a Goth-style coat sporting a skull-and-crossbones motif on the back for tough doggies, a pretty pink loop-edged top for more feminine pups, and a variety of cushions, scarves, collars, and pendants. The patterns are accompanied by clear instructions and are beautifully modelled by Pablo the border terrier, Bella and Cleo the chihuahuas, a pair of Shi-Tzus named Caramel and Lovely, and many others. With charts and templates, this book is a must for knitters and stitchers of all abilities. ...

Instructions

  1. 1

    METHOD

    Cut a rectangle 15 × 125cm (6 × 49¼in) in the fusible web.

  2. 2

Place the rough side on the wrong side of the fabric and iron the paper surface with a hot (steam-free) iron.

  3. 3

    Cut a strip 6 × 65cm (2¼ × 25½in) for
the collar and a second strip 6 × 125cm
(2¼ × 49¼in) for the lead.

  4. 4

    The lead

After removing the paper film, place the strap in the middle of the strip measuring
6 × 125cm (2¼ × 49¼in). Fold the fabric in three on the strap and iron the two sides of the lead with a hot (steam-free) iron until the fabric sticks firm.

  5. 5

Sew the middle of the strip in feather stitch to prevent the fabric from fraying.

  6. 6

For the wrist loop, fold one of the ends at 20cm (7¾in) and sew two lines of tight zigzag stitch widthways, close to the join.

  7. 7

At the other end, fold at 5cm (2in), over the swivel trigger hook and sew two lines of tight zigzag stitch widthways, all along the edge to secure it.

  8. 8

    The collar

After removing the paper film from the
6 × 65cm (2¼ × 25½in) strip, fold the strip in three to obtain a width of 2.5cm (1in) and iron the two sides with a hot (steam-free) iron until the fabric sticks firmly.

  9. 9

Sew the middle of the strip in feather stitch to prevent the fabric from fraying.

  10. 10

Fold one of the edges at 3cm (1¼in) and slip this end on to the centre bar of the sliplock ring; secure with zigzag stitch.

  11. 11

Place the second end of the strip through the male side-release buckle, then slip this end into the sliplock ring.

  12. 12

Bring out this end and fold at 5cm (2in), slip on the D-ring, then the female side-release buckle. Sew in zigzag stitch, first along the buckle, then after the D-ring, then on the end of the strip.

  13. 13

Attach the bead to the collar using the gold ring.

    Tips
Before sewing, wash the fabric with special wool detergent.
Zigzag stitch enables all the fabric layers to be held together firmly. Feather stitch is both secure and decorative.
