Make the holidays out of this world
I made this as a bonus gift for a friend who bought some galaxy shoes from me. It doesn't have to be Christmas time, necessarily. It's super easy and not too expensive. Once you buy the materials, you can make many. I used sparkly black felt but you can do any kind of felt you want. I used matte paint, so it's not dimensional but I think that helps it give the blurred look. And I prefer matte paint. You don't have to add the colors to the arms but I had it on hand. Sorry for the terrible directions but there are pictures. Happy crafting!

  • Step 1

Gather your materials. Take the cotton off the end of a Q-tip. You will use this and a needle to paint the arms on the galaxy.

First, cut two circles of the same size out of the felt.

    Step 2

On the sparkly side of the felt, paint a medium sized white circle in the center of the felt using a brush.

    Step 3

Make the arms. Using the Q-tip, pick a starting point on the top of the white circle (nucleus) and make large dots coming out of and wrapping around the nucleus. Do this on the opposite end of the circle, too. You should have two arms.

    Step 4

Fill in the arms by using the eye end of a needle dipped in white paint and make little dots around the bigger dots in the arm.

Add some color by making dots with the needle using blue, light blue, and pink.

    Step 6

Repeat 2 - 5 on the second circle.

  • Step 7

Cut a piece of ribbon as long as you'd like the ornament to hang. With WS facing together and the ribbon, in a loop, sandwiched between the two circles, stitch the two circles together and the ribbon into place all along the edge. I used rainbow thread but any color would do. Tie off the thread and trim the ends and voila!
