A cheap, easy to make toy that will keep your dog busy for like, minutes! ;P
I've been making random pet toys since I was 7. My favorite are the toys that are made to be figured out, aka puzzle toys. These toys are made to make your dog think, figure out, and rewarded automatically without any human interaction. I also want to stress that these toys are made to be enjoyed and destroyed... so they may not be too cute, or made remarkably well, but that's the beauty of it! Enjoy and let me know what toys you come up with!

  • How to make a pet toy. Flute Dog Puzzle Toy - Step 1
    Step 1

Gather supplies you will need: Scissors, about 5 treats, and a paper towel tube. You can use more or less treats, but make sure they are biscuit type treats... otherwise you may end up with a treat stuck in the middle. I sometimes use peanut butter, but really, that's a different type of toy. So, experiment!

    Step 2

First, punch about 3 holes in the paper towel tube. I spread them out through the length of the tube, make sure they are not too close together, you will be using these holes to cut holes barely big enough for the treats to fall through as the toy is rolled around the ground, carried, and otherwise mutilated.

Next, use the holes to cut the holes. Leave one side of your diamond shaped holes uncut, and fold out for added doggie interest.

Now, on one side, you need to close the end. I used my thumb to fold over first one side...

Add the treats into the tube. Remember, about 5 biscuit treats. I used mini sized MilkBones. Close the end like you did the opposite side.

Give to the dog! Remember to show the dog at first how to get the treats. Roll the toy over so a treat or two falls out, make sure your dog watches! (I'm a dog trainer, trust me, this works!) Then encourage your dog to play with the toy. Every time they play with the toy in a way that could lead to a treat falling out, praise with your voice, excessively! Yay! Good Dog! Soon your dog will be loving there toy and chewing it to smithereens!
