• 

  Step 1

  Fold a sheet of paper in half and draw the half outline of a paper doll style figure. Draw the arm slightly long in proportion to the figure.

  Step 2

  Cut out the figure; however, leave the bottom of the foot intact.

• 

  Step 3

  Using invisible tape (or glue) secure the figure's arms into a hug position.

• 

  Step 4

  Adjust your little paper man into a squatting position and tuck his knees inside his arms.

  And there you have it! Your Five-Minute Paper Man. He is a simple little fellow, but everyone will love him.

  Step 5

  I'm just adding another photo of a finished project.

  When I completed this project, rather than folding a sheet of paper in half to create a symmetrical paper man image, I created a template of the full paper man and then drew his full outline onto a white sheet of paper.

  I then used an exacto knife to cut out the sillhouette of the paper man. (Remember to always leave the very tip of the feet attached).

  Creating the paper man this way prevents him from having a crease running down the center.

  Once the paper man has been cut out, I glue the sheet of white paper to a patterned piece of card stock as shown in the picture.

  Be careful that you do not accidentally glue the paper man to the background card stock during this process. To help keep my paper man from stray glue, I used a piece of wax paper behind him while I was gluing the remaining portion of the white sheet to the patterned card stock.

  Step 6

  There is something very whimiscal and endearing about the little paper man.

Hi Heidi. I'm received feedback from a number of individuals (not just on this site) expressing strong emotions at this simple little paper project. There is definitely an air of melancholy surrounding the little fellow. He's a bit of a blank slate and we are all left to ponder what he is pondering. If you come ups with a different pose, I do hope you will post your project so we can all ponder that as well.

Thanks for the comment Kinhime Dragon. I agree with you that the little 5-minute paper man elicits an emotional response from me too. I can't quite put my finger on it, but there is something wistful about the little guy.
