1. 

   

   To make a petal you need to begin by making a basic row. Cut 90cm of lacemakers wire. Make a loose knot on one end. Thread 20 pink rocailles onto the wire. Leave about 2cm of space between the knot and the first rocaille. Under the last rocaille, make a loop with about 10cm of wire. Twist the wire about 5 times just underneath the last rocaille added. Your basic row is now ready to be turned into a petal.

   Thread about 40cm of beads onto the free end of the wire. This will be your feed wire. Tie another little knot in the end so that the beads don’t fall off. Hold the basic row with the loop at the bottom. Now bring down some of the beads from the feed wire and line them up snugly against the beads on the basic wire. Fold the feed wire, at a right angle*, across the front of the basic wire just above the top bead. Wrap around the back of the basic wire and then again across the front. You have now completed row 2. Now bring down more beads from the feed wire. Again, wrap around the basic wire, but this time, at the bottom of the beads on the basic wire. Row 3 is now complete. Continue in this way until you have 11 rows in total.

   To finish the petal, wrap the feed wire tightly around the base wire, just underneath the last bead. Trim off any excess feed wire. Directly underneath the petal (where you have wrapped the excess feed wire) clip one side of the basic loop to reduce the wire to 1 and make a stem.
   
   At the top of the petal (where the knot is) fold excess wire to the back to neaten and secure.
   
   To complete the flower, make 1 more petal with 11 rows.
   
   Then make 2 petals with 13 rows using 100cm of wire, 20 beads on the basic row and about 50cm of beads on the feed wire.
   
   Then make 8 petals with 15 rows using 120cm of wire, 20 beads on the basic row and about 65cm of beads on the feed wire.
   
   Using the emerald rocailles, make 2 leaves, in the same way, with 13 rows using 100cm of wire, 20 beads on the basic row and about 50cm of beads on the feed wire.

4. 

   

   The calyx is made with continuous crossover loops. Cut 80cm of lacemakers wire. Tie a loose knot in the end and add 60cm of emerald rocailles. Tie a knot at the other end of the wire. For the first sepal on the calyx, move the beads about 4cm from one end of the wire. Fold about 6cm of the beaded wire in half and twist several times to secure. Then take another 6cm of the beaded wire from the bottom of the first loop, over it’s top and back to the bottom. Twist the wire round again to secure. Then continue along the wire until you have 4 more sepals on your calyx. DO NOT cut off excess wire.




5. 

   

   To assemble your rose, place the 2 smallest petals (with 11 rows) facing each other. Twist the 2 wires around each other to form the stem. Add the 2 medium petals (with 13 rows) by twisting 1 wire at a time, neatly, round the stem. Repeat with the 8 large petals. Then add the 2 leaves in the same way, placing 1 about 3cm down the stem and the other a little bit further down. Cut about 200cm of olive 0.6mm wire. Beginning just underneath the calyx, wrap the wire, closely together and as neatly as possible, all the way down the stem.
   
   Shape the flower by bending the 4 central petals in slightly. Bend the other 8 out at the top.

   Your finished rose should look something like this.
