You Will Need

  • Step 1

CO 112sts on US 4 needles.
Join for working in the round and do 1x1 ribbing for 1 inch.
Increase round : continue in ribbing increasing on 7th stitch using kfb (or pfb) to end of round. (You just increased 16sts for a total of 128sts.)
Switch to US 5 needles and work in pattern.

  • Step 2

    Chevron pattern
    R1 & 2 : (p7, k1), repeat ( ) to end
    R3 & 4 : k1, (p5, k3), repeat ( ) to last 7sts, p5, k2 R5 & 6 : k2, (p3, k5), repeat ( ) to last 6sts, p3, k3 R7 & 8 : k3, (p1, k7), repeat ( ) to last 5sts, p1, k4 R9 & 10 : (k7, p1), repeat ( ) to end
    R11 & 12 : p1, (k5, p3), repeat ( ) to last 7sts, k5, p2 R13 & 14 : p2, (k3, p5), repeat ( ) to last 6sts, k3, p3 R15 & 16 : p3, (k1, p7), repeat ( ) to last 5sts, k1, p4 Repeat these 16 rounds 3x total.

  • Step 3

    Crown decreases
Set up row : (ssk, k 28 sts in pattern, k2tog, pm), repeat ( ) 3 more times
On all following rows : (ssk, k to marker in pattern, k2tog, sl m), repeat ( ) 3 times. Repeat this row until 8sts remain.
If you don’t feel comfortable making the decreases in that manner, here is the play by play instead :
    R1 : (ssk, p5, k1, (p7, k1)2x, p6, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times R2 : (ssk, p4, k1, (p7, k1)2x, p5, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times R3 : (ssk, p2, k3, (p5, k3)2x, p3, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R4 : (ssk, p1, k3, (p5, k3)2x, p2, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R5 : (ssk, k4, (p3, k5)2x, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R6 : (ssk, k3, p3, k5, p3, k4, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R7 : (ssk, k3, p1, k7, p1, k4, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R8 : (ssk, k2, p1, k7, p1, k3, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R9 : (ssk, k5, p1, k6, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R10 : (ssk, k4, p1, k5, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R11 : (ssk, k2, p3, k3, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R12 : (ssk, p5, k1, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R13 : (ssk, p4, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R14 : (ssk, p2, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
    R15 : (ssk, k2tog), repeat ( ) 3 more times
Cut the yarn leaving at least a 6 inch tail. Run tail through remaining 8 sts, pull tight and weave in all ends.
Lightly block or wear as is.
