Learn how to brioche stitch with Yarn it and Haberdashery in Columbus, Ohio
The Brioche stitch can be done in two ways, picked up from the stitch below or using a diagonal yarn over. In this tutorial we will show you how to do it with the diagonal yarn over. It is important to first understand how the yarn over looks from both the Knit and Purl side of the fabric. This stitch can be done in one single color or it has been very popular to do it in two colors. I like to suggest to beginners that it is easiest to learn using two colors because one color will always be your knit and the other will always be your purl color.

For the purpose of this pattern it will be a brioche cowl in two colors.

Terms:
brk - Brioche Knit - Knit stitch and yarn over together as one
brp - Brioche Purl - Purl stitch and yarn over together as one
sl1yo - Slip 1 stitch and yo diagonally across

The second stitch marker is used when you are putting your project down. I suggest a locking stitch marker so that you can attach it to you right side of the fabric and on your left side that you are knitting towards. This is so you will know when the stitch marker is facing you that it is working in the right direction and you aren’t doubling back on yourself. Of course it is preferred that every time you stop it is at the end of the round.
