Appelflappen
These can be found at any Dutch bakery or supermarket. But they're also incredibly quick and easy to make! Especially if you use pre-rolled, pre-cut, frozen pastry sheets ;)
Any apple suitable for pies should work, so just take your pick.

  • Step 1

    Preheat oven at 225 degrees Celsius/ 437 degrees Fahrenheit/ gas mark 5-6.

    Place baking paper on baking sheet.
    Place pastry sheets onto baking paper.
    When using store-bought pastry please make sure to remove any plastic lining sheets!

    Peel,quarter and remove apple cores, cut parts into smallish chunks.
    Place into a bowl.

    Wash and drain raisins, add to apple chunks.
    Add 15 grams of sugar to apple and raisins, mix.

    Dust apples/raisins with some cinnamon, mix.

    Scoop 1/4 of the mixture onto each of the pastry sheets.

    Moisten 2 edges of each pastry sheet (the blue line in the drawing) with some water, using your finger or a brush.

    Fold down left upper corner to right lower corner (the red diamonds in the drawing) of each of the pastry sheets.

    Press down the edges with either your finger or a fork.

    Moisten de tops of the apple flaps with some water and sprinkle with sugar.

    Place baking sheet into middle to lower half of oven, and bake for 15 to 20 minutes, depending on your oven.

    Best eaten as freshly baked as possible, either lukewarm to cold with some tea or coffee, or lukewarm to hot, with icecream as a dessert.
