Build up the ultimate vegetarian burger in #ABiteToEat with Lord of the Fries in Windsor, Victoria.

How did you get started?

The idea behind Lord of the Fries began over late night snack excursions early in 2004, when I met my wife Mandy while living in Taiwan. Our love for fries drew us closer, and our disdain for nasty frozen chemical fries inspired us to create the perfect fry.

We returned in August 2004 and decided to take the best fries you will ever try to the people! What better way than a mobile chip van … and so Lord of the Fries was born.

By late 2005, we got a permanent locale in the heart of Melbourne… and now Lord Of The Fries has several locations. We are continuing to spread our wings across the rest of Australia, to bring delicious fries to everyone.

Where are you located?

We currently have 9 stores across Melbourne and Sydney, and are expanding to Perth by the end of 2015!

What are your specialities?

The most special thing about LOTF is that we believe in making food with love, not animals, offering unsuspecting vegetarian and vegan fare to satisfy even the most carnivorous of stomachs.

If I had to choose a specific item, our specialty our namesake – the fries – where the whole idea started. Our customers were excited to finally find a fry that was NOT drowned in beef tallow and juiced up with gluten; NOT cooked in the cheapest oil money can buy; NOT smothered in watered down tomato sauce and sitting in a bain-marie since the beginning of time. Take say, our Classic Fries. We’re using real, freshly cut potatoes – changing varieties based on the season and what’s available to us through Aussie farmers. You can tell their fresh because they aren’t perfect – but why would you want to mask great natural flavour?

What's your personal favorite thing on the menu?

If I’m feeling exciting, I can’t go passed a Spicy Mini burger. But if I’m feeling like something classic, I love the New Guru burger.

What's on the stereo?

Right now it’s Dr Dre’s new album, Compton.

Where else should we visit in your area?

Check out Nostralis pizza in Caulfield. They make the best veg pizzas in the world! Tip: try the half Vindaloo / half Veg.

Do you host any special events?

Yes, we do! Every couple of months we host a VIP event night, where guests can preview and taste new menu items and give us feedback before they are released in stores. We also are currently working on a program to benefit those in need in our community, and look forward to sharing that with our customers in the coming months.

Is there anything else you'd like us to know?

We thought we would share our insight into the ultimate vegetarian burger flavour combination...

You always need the classic ingredients to make a delicious burger - some cheese, a mock beef patty, lettuce, ketchup and mustard are my picks.

To take it to the next level, I add my secret ingredient, Kosher Pickles – and lots of them. Chilli sauce always gives it a bit of a kick too!
