The 'Picking' Swap idea :)

If somebody wants to 'steal' the idea and host the swap instead of me,feel free I'm outta country 11th-17th September.

What if I like someone's idea but my partner doesn't like my projects, or I have too few projects, or my projects aren't easily sendable? shippable? Oh right, I don't know the word I'm looking for, but you get the idea.

Mary, I think we choose 3 people we'd like to swap with, so the host would pair you up with someone who had also chosen you in their 3. It might take a bit of juggling around, but with 3 preferred partners from everyone, it should work ok

For example: Mary chooses Sally Tracy & Julie
Sally chooses Mary Tracy & Nikki
Julie chooses Mary Agata Libby
Nikki chooses Cassie Sally Pammerz

Julie would be paired with Mary
Nikki & Sally and so on

I agree with bindiibabe. That'll make it easier to pair people up =]

@Mary, I'm worried too, I'm always worried that what I make won't stand the test of time, or a few uses.

Bindii, would it work once we are partnered up we then choose what we would like, or would we say something like: Bindiibabe-guinea pigs, Pammerz-jewellery?

Ideally, you would say what items you liked, then people could also be paired according to the amount of time or work involved in the pieces. It would also help with the sorting if multiple people all requested the same people.
For example, Pamela, Joss, Libby and Mary all listed each other, the things Joss & Mary like of each others are most closely matched in time and value so they would be paired.
Or you could choose to be paired with someone who does a similar item to you but uses a different technique: pamela & Agata could be paired to make a set of jewellery using their partners choice of technique. or if both people really liked something quite time consuming the other had made, they could decide they were willing to wait for a later sendout date.

It sounds long and drawn out and complicated - its not!! Once everyone has put their requests, it can be juggled around to fit

Oh, and is someone else going to host?? Or are we gonna await the return of the mighty Padme?? I vote wait, unless anyone REALLY can't bear to wait(also gives people time to post more projects, giving you more to choose from!!)

i think wait, although I dont have many projects, there are a lot of things i make but dont have pictures of everything I've made (such as sent swap items which had pics taken so that you couldnt see what they were)

Sorry for always coming up with questions... I love this idea and I really would love to be part of this swap! It's just that I don't have many projects up and most of them are cooking stuff (I love cooking!) which is a bit tricky to swap. What if nobody likes my projects? Who should I be paired with? Do versions of other projects count?

ooo i agree with the versions as the first 5 or so things i posted were versions
what if no one wants what i have created? my projects only have 1 or 2 people "loving" them

I think versions should be included as other peoples versions can be quite different from the original. I also think that if we don't want to wait for Scharminkeltje to return Bindibabe could host as she seems to have a handle on how to host it. (As long as she didn't mind hosting such a big swap).

Could we maybe list which of our projects we'd be happy to re-make? Or would that make it too complicated?

Bah! this is so crazy confusing :S

I think we should do it soon, because I am board!
Whenever we do start it though, who ever is posting should start a whole new post so new people wont be confused by all the planning going on

I just assumed versions were included.....
Afterall, it's still something you've made, even if it's a version of something someone else did. Plus you may have introduced something new to it when you made it, or attempted it in a different way

Can't remember who suggested it but a list of what you're willing to recreate or use ideas from would be advantageous, you can always refer to projects on your profile where pertinent.

And that was smooth Libby, nicely sidestepped m'dear! I say wait for Agata I wouldn't suggest having a cut off date much before her return anyway
But P. is right, we should ask her to start a brand new thread to avoid any confusion between the discussion and the actual happenings!!

And Mary: Think outside the box (or oven) - clearly a dozen cupcakes and a pot of soup aren't going to travel well halfway across the planet, but a recipe book or file with a selection of your cooks & bakes would be very much appreciated by someone

Chunky Book meets favourite recipes, everyone shares they're fav recipes, it could even work in rounds (soups, cupcakes, special occasions, less than 5 ingredients.....)

aww i wouldnt be able to do that really, im such a fussy eater food i dont like makes me throw up :s
oddly enough i like cooking though, need someone to handle raw meat for me sometimes if i freak out. also im not supposed to use a cheese grater (grater+thumb=owie :'( )
