Turning photo album into scrapbook

I have a photo album that I want to turn into a scrapbook. It is bookbound with paper pages. Part of the pages are covered by a plastic sheet cover (very thin) for where the photos are to go and the other part is left for memos.
It looks like

What I was wondering was what would be the best way to "transform" the photo album into a scrapbook so I can use the full page for layouts and create a traditional scrapbook.

I was thinking that I could simply remove the plastic covering and put background paper on to use it just like any other scrapbook. Any suggestions or advice?

Im not sure if this would work, but if you can remove the metal (?) bits, that would leave large open leaves that you could slide the paper into.

Thanks for the input, but there aren't any metal bits. It's bound just like a regular hardcover book.

Oh, and I just thought I might add that the two little lines on each paper (maybe that's what Melvin was referring to) are just holes in the paper. The plastic covering on both sides stick to each other through the little holes. Does that make sense?

ahh thats what I was talking about. can you undo them at all without destroying it?

Well, I think I can remove the plastic without damaging the pages, but I don't know of a way to get the plastic off without ruining that part.

But hey, it doesn't really need the plastic, does it? I guess I'll just have to plunge in and try. I'll let you guys know when I get around to doing it.
