HELP WITH WOOL/FELTING!!!

I would like to start making things from felt but I'm not sure how to start. Do I buy loose wool and mold it myself...and if so, where on earth would I buy it? I went to Michael's once and asked a floor person if they had loose wool and she just gave me a blank stare and pointed at pillow stuffing fibers...not helpful.

Or do I buy sheets of felt and go from there...and if so, how do I reform it? It seems like the craft community just kind of "knows" how to do these things and I can't find any information anywhere.

the type of felt you should buy depends on what you want to make out of it i would say!! if you want to form balls, animals, hats, flowers whatever out of it you should buy the loose wool fibers. if you want to make brooches or hairpins which are basically flat or you want to cut out the shapes you wish you should buy felt sheets! i think it would be hard to reform the sheets because they were rolled over with heavy weights and sometimes the fabricants burnt the ends or the tiny scales...
i have to admit this is general, maybe you can write what you want to make!?!
i don´t know where you´re living but here in germany you can buy it in craft shops or even fabric stores! or you search in the internet for online craft shops!

I do a lot of knitting and crochet and I felt that way. Make something with yarn that is 100% or mostly wool, toss it in the washer (preferably hot water) and then in the drier (high heat) and what you've created will felt (and shrink! do tests first).
