Acne problem, Help please? :)

I'm about 17 years old and yes i know this is the age acne is supposed to hit more but i have pretty bad acne, i've only used soaps like the ones you get from you general stores and proactive and neither seems to help. My acne is mainly on my cheeks and kind of on my chin, i have a pretty few scars even though i don't ever pop my pimples, i have very oily skin, and i just want something that can at least try to get rid of it or anything! any tips, suggestions would be helpful, and also just in case i want to try more than one of these tips can you suggest would step i should do first or for how long i should use the product and when, thanks<3

-there isn't really an order to do these steps in-

Since you have very oily skin try to use a foaming/foamy facial cleanser, the more foamy your face wash/cleanser is, the more it will dry out your skin, heres a really good one that i use... http://www.boots.com/en/Boots-Tea-Tree-and-Witch-Hazel-Foaming-Face-Wash_8340/ use this product until your skin dries out and goes to neither oily or dry, then try to use a diffrent product for about three days then switch back, continue to do that for as long as you can keep it up basically, the more you use a product the more your skin gets used to it, so it can find ways to break out even if the product worked brilliantly the first time. Drink lots of water and eat healthier foods, drinking lots of water gets rid of toxins from the body and skin, eating 'healthier foods makes a huge diffrence you could be getting acne just because you're eating 'unhealthy' foods, i know it can be difficult but try when you can. Excerise, i know this sounds weird but it will help, a healthier body means healthier skin right? just make sure you wash your face afterwards. Even just washing your face after you wash your hair and changing your pillowcase can help Happy hope this helps Happy

Try witch hazel as a toner. It's cheap, natural and really works.

Also look for a face wash with Benzoyl Peroxide as its active ingredient.

Don't go switching back and forth between products. Whatever you do! Try using a product for at least 2 months before stopping. If you stop before then than you aren't giving the product a fair enough chance. Get an oil-free moisturizer and switch to an oil free foundation.

Make sure you are cleansing your face every morning to prep your skin. Follow by your toner (if you use one) and then your moisturizer. Make sure you give your skin a few minutes between applying each. If you can go without wearing make up- do! At night be sure to remove your make up and wash your face again!

Because you are a teenager the best acne-fighting products for you to use are ones with Benzoyl Peroxide. It is very likely you will get acne as an adult as well. By then Benzoyl Peroxide will be a little too harsh for your skin and you will want to switch to a product with Salicylic Acid.

In case anyone wanted to know how you determine your skin type; take a bit of scotch tape and place it on an unaffected area of your face. Remove after letting it set a minute and look at the tape. If it appears like it is covered in dry skin then you have dry skin, if it appears oily then you have oily skin. It can also be a combination of the two which means you have combination to normal skin. A lot of people have acne problems and actually suffer from dry skin. It's always a good idea to determine correctly your skin type before picking your skin care regime and products.

When I had bad acne, I used a benzoyl peroxide wash and followed it up with Differin (a Rx acne-fighter) and it kept my skin pretty clear.

Acne problems run in my fiance's family (he's 24 and still gets acne, and his sisters are all in their 30s/40s and they still get acne), so I just made a special soap for him and whenever he gets acne, the soap takes care of it.

Green tea and honey help fight acne... Maybe make an avocado mask with some brewed green tea and some natural honey!

Anything with Benzoyl Peroxide should work.

Also, when you get a pimple, in the evening before you go to sleep, dab a bit of Sudocrem (Nappy rash cream) on it, it dries it out perfectly. Just a lil tip.

You can add any of the following oils to a scentless face cream:
Soothing and cleansing oils: Chamomile
Rebalancing and antiseptic oils: Lemon, lime, bergamot, mandarin, cedarwood, juniper, geranium
Healing oils: Neroli, lavender

You can mix any of these with each other and a base cream (the scentless face cream in this case), just a few drops of each is enough. These oils all specifically help for oily skin with acne. Hope this helps.

Here's the link to the soap I've made just to treat acne: http://www.etsy.com/listing/72979340/green-clean-anti-acne-soap

Since you're a teenager and acne is just going to happen to you though, I would suggest trying a mask and maybe a gentle scrub at home. Just doing little daily masks and scrubs can improve your acne a lot, especially if you add the right things to both. I had acne bad from the time I was 12 until I was about 16... then when I started using avocado masks and gentle facial scrubs, my acne disappeared. I haven't had a breakout in over 4 years.

Change your pillowcase 1-2 times a week
-bacteria can build up and cause acne

Never use alcohol based products
-this strips your skin of oil, leading your skin to believe there isn't enough so it will actually over produce oil!

Throughout the day freshen up by wiping over your face with a damp cloth
-this will freshen your face and remove just enough oil without causing an imbalance

Use an aspirin mask 1-2 times a week
-the salicylic acid in aspirin will help fight inflammation and bacteria. Just dissolve an aspirin in a spoonful of water and apply, let dry, then rinse.

these are going to sound weird but..

Green tea works wonders - just brew your tea and use it as a toner or apply it before bed. i have really oillly skin too and it helped control the oilliness (haha i love making words up)

honey is a great anti-acne tool. i make a honey and oatmeal mask that i used 2 times a week and not only did my face clear up but it controlled the oil. (oatmeal sucks up the oil and the honey repells acne)

um, also rice water mask works ok but it really didnt do mcuh for my oilly face :/

(i am a BIG health eco friendly organic fan so when ever i hear of cool all natural tips and ideas on anything really i try them for myself and if they work i make them and give them to others to try)

there is alot of different acne meds out there but most of the store bought crap has stuff in it that yeah dries up your pimples but it also kills the top layer of skin making your face dried out and some of them are made that unless you use them ALOT acne comes back. which is bs if you ask me.

also- if you want to check out the homemade acne tips youtube is wonderful.

When I was a teenager, I had no money to buy acne washes and facial scrubs, so I took my mom's advice and used grated apples as a face mask. I finally listened to her after about three years of bad acne, and I have scars because of how stubborn I was. I hope that you can get the problem under control before the same happens to you. If you need a pore reducer then there are several homeopathic ways to get it done, just be sure that your face is practically sterilized before doing it. Anything with no oil and a bit of vinegar will reduce pores, and enlarged pores tend to get clogged easier, obviously.

I feel your pain. I spent about 5 years on meds trying to find something that would work- and before that I tried almost all of the washes and scrubs available. It sucks. Try what you can, but if you get to the end of the over the counter stuff I'd head to a dermatologist. He/she can get you more options, and believe me there will be something that will help.
If you don't want that, some basic tips are to wash your face 2x a day, and before bed put a moisturizer on so your skin won't get too dry(like others said above, that leads to more of the redness). make sure you wash off all makeup, and try to get stuff that won't clog your pores. be careful in sunlight, just 'cus that can lead to skin cancer and if your skin is dry, that'll just irritate it more. I hope some of this helps! good luck!

If you're breaking out on your cheeks, it could be that you makeup is old (if you wear any) or maybe you need to change you pillow sheets. Pillow sheets can cause massive breakouts if you don't change them from time to time. If that isn't the case, just drink plenty of water, wash your 2-3 times a day, NEVER wear makeup to sleep, exfoliate your face once a week, and maybe try a face mask. Happy Strawberries are supposed to be natural sources of salicylic acid, which helps fight acne. Just smash some strawberries, and rub them on your face and let it sit for 15 min. (If you wear makeup) Try to find makeup with salicylic acid in it or one that's oil free. You should also use oil free face wash. I know I break out mostly on my cheeks and I use Neosporin on my acne and it helps most times. I hope this helps! Remember, love your face and don't abuse it by using too many facial products! If you over do it, it may irritate your skin/acne some more!
