Tied tutu issue

So I just made a tutu yesterday, simple tying of the tulle onto elastic, and when I went to take it off the knots began to move around the making areas more or less covered. I was wondering if there was something I could do to prevent that. Luckily this was a practice run before I made the tutu needed for me Halloween costume

try running a row of stitches along the top, just under the elastic
