Wrong place at the wrong time!!

Ok so I'm a bit shaky from what just went down. My best friend and I like to drive around our city at night for a little bit and listen to music and we most often end up parking somewhere public and turning off the car and we people watch and talk and listen to music - it might sound wierd but it's 'our thing' and we love it. We've done it for years and all has been well except for tonight.

About 20 minutes ago we were parked in a fast food restaurant's parking lot across from a Wal-Mart just talking and letting the radio play when a red car swooped into the closed restaurant's parking lot and pulled up beside us quickly. I turned to look out my window in the car's direction and the man was looking at us and he gave a sort of nod and he quickly got out of his car and was half way around it.

Now I'm a skittish person who thinks that everyone is up to something so of course as soon as the car was coming our way I was already starting the engine and backing up. My friend said that it would look wierd if we just sped away as soon as another car got there so she cracked her passenger window an inch and the guy looked around a little and said "You order Philos?" (the name of a restaurant in our city) so she quickly said "no" and he just kept nodding so we left and began driving home.

We decided that no restaurant would deliver to a car in an abbandoned parking lot at 11PM so we thought "that guy was up to something"

Being young and stupid we decided to quickly drive by the parking lot and see if he was still there. Instead of back-tracking to the parking lot to pass (which would look like we drove away and came back) I decided it would be better to take a longer way that would result in a circle, letting us pass the parking lot and head the same way we left making it seem as though we were another car. We could easily get away with this because I drive a very very very generic car that every second person has so we could have easily been 2 seperate people.

So after about 5 minutes we pass the parking lot to find a large silver SUV pulled up beside the car with the first man. The man was stanind beside the SUV and they had their doors open.

We were at the scene of a drug deal!! The man has obviously thought that we were his customers and when we didn't reply to him he gave us a fake reason for being there. We couldn't believe that we were parked in the exact spot a drug deal was set to go down.

I can't help but think about if the SUV would have showed up first... How would they have approached us? It's crazy to think about and I just can't believe we were in the middle of it...

Sorry for such a long post but I just had to share this story with someone.

Glad your safe! That's pretty scary! I've been there before, it can be dangerous as well!

It was pretty surreal - we felt as though we were in a movie at the time! Parking actually got us into "trouble" a few years ago as well... We were parked, at night, in an old parking lot in our neighbourhood - which has virtually no crime and is full of retired couples or newly weds with young kids - and so we pulled into this parking lot and parked and after turning off the car and being there for about 30 seconds, this car that was about 100 feet ahead of us suddenly turned on and the headlights were blinding for us and the car wasn't moving. So I started my car and we left the parking lot. The other car followed us out of it and onto the road for a bit and after we got away from the parking lot the other car made a U turn and returned to the parking lot.

We still can't decide if that other car was a security vehicle that was clearing us out or if there was some sort of deal that was going to be going down and they wanted to get rid of us.

Needless to say we are beginning to re-think the whole night parking thing. It's just such a shame that you can't park somewhere at night quietly and look at the stars without falling into something or being in danger. Why are people so shady out there?

Me and my husband (before we got married) used to do that, park somewhere just to get some peace (I had a full house so did he so there was no peace anywhere). We once parked and some cops showed up and thought I was there against my will O_O it was funny but weird. They kept asking me if I was ok, what we were doing, who we were, and if he tried to answer, they would tell him to shut up they were talking to me. It was crazy. In reality before they showed up we were simply talking about him possibly teaching me to drive his car, because it was a stick shift LOL

The days of our youth Cassie !

Lo- it's a nice thing to do but you need a back up plan if things turn nasty.Plan your actions if an emergency happen. You seemed to have handled it fine.

I still love to walk at night and be in the city but I know there are areas in Seattle that I just wouldn't put myself in that situation.

Same thing in London I've walked and driven around .It's much easier now we have cell-phones-speed dial is your friend.

Always park under a light! regardless if you are alone or not. Also I wouldn't worry to much about being caught in the middle of a drug deal, obviously they want to be inconspicuous and if the SUV had been there before you they would have probably just left. I would be more worried that someone approached the car! Who cares what your friend said, speed very fast away if you don't know the person approaching the car!!!!
Something similar happened to my husband and I right after we got married. We got married in another state and were about to drive back home,we pulled into a dark part of a parking lot to change into sweats (more comfy for driving) and as my hubby had his pants down a creepy guy most likely just a bum approached the car window. It was so dark we didn't see him until he was at the window. I freaked out because I'm suspicious and paranoid and yelled at my hubby to drive away, he was just worried about being seen without pants! So we peeled out and left the guy with his mouth wide open haha. It's a good thing it wasn't the cops they probably wouldn't have believed we were just changing into sweat pants!

One last thing you should invest in pepper spray to keep on your person just in case you need to defend yourself. If you are in college you can probably get it for free at the student offices.
