Painting Shell Pendants

Not sure if I am in the right area, I just joined a few minutes a ago..... my crafts are a vary wide range right now my project is painting zebra on pendant shells. My problem is that the paint will rub off against the jewelry that I have created. How do I seal the marker/paint? I really am not using paint I have been using marker and have tried clearcote spray and clear nail polish and all it wants to do is make the marker run, what do I need to do? Please help if anyone here can, thanks.

Try a lacquer or varnish. You problem though could depend on what type of paint or marker you are using. Acrylic paint sticks well without running or smearing when you apply a protective coating. Permanent markers are a bit tricky as I have had the same problem but on a different surface. So I always test my surfaces and coatings before I actually use it on a piece that I finished so I won't ruin it, which is a drag.
