Dress to wear to a wedding - Stuck on ideas

My brother is getting married in under a month and I need something to wear to his wedding in Punta Cana.

I've looked at dresses online and tried a few on in stores but they all seem to have the wrong shape and fit for me.

I've gained 20 pounds since I moved away from home, so I want something that's going to at least make me look like I haven't gained anything.

I'm really self-conscious about my thighs, my stomach, and my shoulders so I want a style that's going to keep attention away from them.

I'm about a M/L or size 12. I was in a size 10P before I moved.

I was thinking about an asymmetrical skirt but don't know what to do for a top. I'd prefer to wear a dress rather than a skirt and shirt... so I need some help Happy

Check out http://www.unique-vintage.com/ It's one of my favorite websites to wish over. Plus they sell a lot of designer Rockabilly/pin up clothes like Bernie Dexter and Bettie Page for cheaper than they retail for.

I sympathise. I've gone up a dress size too in the last year or so and will have to buy outfits for 2 weddings this year : (

How about something that nips in at the waist but has a full skirt? (I guess quite similar to the 'pin-up' style that pinkweeds mentioned). That way it will skim your thighs and tum and should make you look slimmer by showing off your waist.

Wrap dresses are always flattering. They accentuate the waist and float away from the thighs. They're also perfect for fluctuating weight because you can tie them tighter or looser.

Thanks all!

Pinkweeds- I'm getting ideas already and I'm only on page 2 of the dresses. Woohoo.

I've been trying to lose weight, but I have been incredibly stressed as of late. Last semester was hell for me, and this semester's been rough. But I've been eating less and wanting to eat less so maybe I'll lose a few pounds before the wedding.
All of my guy friends tell me I look great every time they see me, but I want to be able to tell myself that I look good.

After all my weight issues, my fiance is going to help me fix up 2 bikes that I can use so I can get the kinds of exercise I need! I'm excited!

Never underestimate a good bra, or pair of undergarments (spanx, control top pantyhose, smoothing slip...) They will help smooth your overall look making your clothes fit better, and you will feel more confident as a result. Also stick to fabrics with structure, try to stay away from clingy stretchy fabric. Not only do they tend to look cheap, they also show off every bump.

If you want to wear a dress maybe something with a similar shape to these would work?

Something like this would be very Jackie O/Michelle Obama and if you are into vintage fashion, this is a fun way to modernize it.

At a wedding I went to recently someone was wearing something like this and it looked very flattering on her even though she is maybe 15 pounds overweight.
