An alterable cape thats easy to make!
This was uber easy to make. The material I used is like a stretchy lycra except nicer than most ive had before. It's still awful to sew , so be wary.
It didnt take long and I completely winged it.

This was a random sample piece my partner got me because hes on friendly terms with the shop owner. alas that shop owner is moving to alum rock, waaaaaaaaa. awesome guy for those who live by alum rock lol.

  • Step 1

Get the 1 metre-ish length of material and fold the top over about 5 inches, however big you want the collar. Fold the edge under so that its clean and smooth, and can tell its a slightly raised piece of material. This is called cheating.

  • Step 2

Now hem the 2 sides, much thinner, about a centimetre. Forget the double fold, if it's nice material then it probably doesnt fray. Yay for us!
Sew them down, straight stitch might be advisable. I used zig zag, and had a nightmare, especially with the cotton I was using. It wishes to die....

  • Step 3

If youve botched your stitching, or just want to embellish it, then get some lining ribbons or decorative pieces and sew them to the edge. It's nice when you wear it with the belt then. I also found, because I lacked ribbons that were the same, that alternating colours looks nice for this reason too.

  • Step 4

Hem the bottom. 1 inch, 3 inch. Who cares, do what you must, just don't mix up the top and bottom.

  • Step 5

now the hard part. put it round your shoulders. Watch yourself drop it a few times. decide how you want it to sit. Do you want it to hang off your shoulders, maybe you can stiffen the collar somehow if you want it to stick up.

  • Step 6

Personally I decided to overlap the 2 sides, and stitch them together, so the easiest way was to lay it on the bed so I could see the inside, and bring the 2 sides down in a triangle. where they overlapped neatly I sewed together.

  • Step 7

Done, now you will successfully want to murder stretchy materials. On the plus side, you now have a cape for the winter, or times of madness. And also a beautiful top that you drape around your neck- with ur head thru the hole- put a belt round , and then let drop. The lower edge will curve beautifully, and you'll have an awesome cleavage whether u decide to drop the back or not.
