Polymer Buttons

Buttons

These small cuties can be used in scrapbooking or doll clothes, but you can make buttons of any size to use for a number of things.

  1. Step 1

    Step 1

    Cut up clay of equal amount (and as many colors as you want) into crumbles.

  2. Step 2

    Step 2

    Mix clay and evenly roll out as thick as you want your buttons.


  3. Step 3

    Step 3

    Use cutting tool to cut out your buttons. You can use a number of things you may having lying around your house i.e. tops to containers of various sizes.

  4. Step 4

    Step 4

    Cut out as many buttons as you want.


  5. Step 5

    Step 5

    Use the end of a dowel or the end of any smooth, flat circular surface that not bigger than your button to make the center indention.
    You can use tapestry needle, to make the actual button holes. With this step, you can emprovise with different tools.

  6. Step 6

    Step 6

    You can either put any left over clay aside for later use; uh like for a heart pendant. Or Use it make another creation. These are going to be a pair of earrings.
    Bake buttons per manufacturer's instructions. No need for adding a protective finish.

  7. Step 7

    Step 7

    Use X-acto to clear holes on the back of the buttons. Now there ready for anything you want to use them for.

can you actually use the buttons for clothing? or is it too fragile for that?

of course you can sew them and use them.. polymer clay is as hard as rock after baking.. you can also abrade, polish, paint and varnish it if you want it to look really neat..

Yes Miguel, just like janghwa said, you can can these on clothing. Varnishing them or putting some type of protective coating on them will strengthen their already durability.
