Melted Bead Bowl

  • Completed Project: Melted Bead Bowl Picture #1

A cute and easy bowl to make!

This is good if you have a bunch of those plastic beads that you know you'll never make anything with. Play with different color combinations! Also, open your windows and get some air circulating in your kitchen, you don't need to breath in the fumes of melting plastic.

  1. Step 0

    Step 0

Preheat oven to 400 degrees(F). Cover your baking pan in foil.

  2. Step 1

    Step 1

Arrange your beads in the bottom of the pan, avoiding empty spaces, because these will leave holes in the finished bowls. Place it in the oven.

  3. Step 2

    Step 2

When the beads are all melted together, which takes about 20 minutes in the oven, take them out. Set them aside to harden.

  4. Step 3

    Step 3

Cover the container that you're using to shape your bowl in foil.

  5. Step 4

    Step 4

You should have a bead disc like this after your beads have hardened.

  6. Step 5

    Step 5

Center the disc on your container, and place it in the oven.

  7. Step 6

    Step 6

After the sides fall down like this, take it out. Let it harden again.

  8. Step 7

    Step 7

After it's completely solid, take it off the container, and there you have your bowl!

This is wicked cool, but I'm wondering if ventilation is needed for fumes? I work in a studio with two other artists and we try to be as "fume-free" as possible...
