Dia de los Muertos is my favorite holiday and to add to my joy the monarch butterflies are migrating through my neighborhood on their way down to mexico, so I decided to create this little one in honor of them !
1
Here is what you'll need for this project plus any other embellishments you might want to add to this little butterfly !
I found these little skeletons at our local supermarket as a garland and took them apart.
2
Start by selecting 2 sets of Fall Leaves (with the veins if possible) for the wings. I used floral snips to cut them of a garland.
3
Next place the leaves with the veins to the front in the arrangement you like.
4
Glue each of the leaves onto the skeleton using your hot glue gun. Be careful to attach each leaf to the others so that they are sturdy.
5
After all the leaves are glued on, I cut the ring base off of a plastic spider ring and then hot glued the spider to the back of the leaves to hide the joint where they came together.
6
Turn your butterfly over and start tracing the veins on the leaves with your glitter glue - if your leaves don't have veins, you can just trace out the veins yourself onto the leaf.
7
Use some glitter glue to "paint" your skeleton so that the bones will glisten !
8
Next Dot the Eyes with some contrasting glitter glue.
9
I also added some little skull sequins for that extra flare. Now you're ready to hang your butterfly !
