Turn a jumper or cardigan into a lace up top
This works with a jumper or cardigan. I used a cardiagan. I cut off the buttons and buttonhole edging and around the neck and crocheted a new edging which you can wear in at least 3 different ways, that I can think of anyway. I hope the crochet instructiions make sense. I have put the instructions for the edging I have done on mine and also a simplier one that is easier.

    Step 1

If using a cardigan cut off the button edges and all round neck edge.
If using a jumper cut using the diagram through the front only and cut off any edging following the neckline at the back

Crochet instructions are in english crochet, but American crochet is in brackets.

Starting on right bottom edge work dc (sc) up along the edge around neck and down left side. make sure there are equal stitches on each side or the lace up won't work.

Fasten off and start from bottom right edge again attach yarn.
3ch, *yrh, miss 1ch, insert hook into ch and draw up loop, 3 times, yrh and draw through 6 loops, yrh and draw through rem 2 loops, 1ch. Work up sides and round neck from * work 3 sts into each corner of front where it turns, where I have strung the braid through, Sorry picture not brilliant
    Fasten off.

Or you can simple ch3, *miss 1ch and tr (dc) into st, 1ch, continue from * with 3 in the corners at front.
    Fasten off.

You can use a ribbon for the lace up front or you can make a crochet braid as follows.
Make ch to required length I made mine twice the lenght of the cardigan, but I thought it would of been better a little longer.
Next work 1ss into 2nd and each following single horizontal st behind each chain. If you turn ch over you can see a stitch running along the middle it's this stitch. It's called slip stitch cord and it's useful for all sorts of things and loook great.

To make lace up in a criss cross pattern throught the loops like a corset missing 2 or 3 loops looks best, than theading every loop.

The 2nd style is tie up just thread braid through bottom loop of 3 cluster and tie in a bow.

The 3rd way inspired by the t shirt shrug, see my favs if you don't know this. This only works if it fairly thinnish top. Thread into each alternative loop all around sides and neck and gather up and tie into a bow at front.
