Have you always been creative and artistic?

As a child, I loved words and pretty colors, collecting agates and marbles, making drawings with rainbows that I filled my bedroom walls with, and wrote oodles of poetry. My first illustrated books were handmade in junior high, along with loving being in school plays. Besides taking a couple fabulous poetry-writing courses in college, my creative life didn't pick up again in adulthood until my forties, and has continued with great joy.

How would you describe the style of your work?

Colorful, tender, bright, to the core, and of the heart and soul.

What’s in your pencil case and what’s your favorite tool?

Copic markers, a thesaurus, pencil, and my heart.

Who is your favorite superhero?

Pippi Longstocking

If you could have one super power what would it be?

To fly.

Where do you look for inspiration?

To books that are written well, like by Kate DiCamillo. To art that is delicious, like by Picasso. To children, who are free, adventuring, loving, and wild. To nature. To naps. To the quiet. Overall, to places of clearing, to where I can hear.

Who are your favorite artists or comic book authors?

Favorite artists: Picasso, Matisse, Gudrun Sjoden (clothing designer/artist), John August Swanson, Children's art always, and so many more!
