We head to the Palm Coast in Florida to go behind the scenes at Poofy Cheeks and explore Kelsey's craft room.
My favorite thing about the space is the natural light that comes in all day long. It is great for taking shop product photography and photos for my blog. I also love the big long wall which allows me to have one long desk to work on.
Tell us about your space
My craft room is actually meant to be a formal dining room but since we aren't very formal people and the room would otherwise go unused my husband agreed to let me use it as an area for my crafts. I am lucky enough to have the room to myself but the downfall is that you can see the entire room while sitting in our living room so I have to work to keep it tidy and presentable for when we DO have company. The space doubles as my work space - it is where I craft, take photos, answer emails and fill and package my ETSY shop orders. I spend most of the day in my craft room doing or creating something. Most of the time I am creating paper crafts or planning out DIY projects.
What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?
When my husband agreed to let me take over the dining room I wanted a fun, bright space but also something that would blend with the rest of our home since we have an open floor plan. Throughout my home I have pops of aqua and teal so I brought that in with the sawhorse desk and the décor on the walls and shelves. It is just enough without going overboard.
How do you keep organized?
I keep things organized by using LOTS of chalkboard labeled jars. I have jars for nearly all of my supplies and even created mason jar shelves to save on room. A few months ago I also took over the entryway closet across from my craft room and moved things around a bit. Since we live in Florida and rarely have a need for winter coats or boots the closet went virtually unused. In the closet I use a shelving unit, shelves my dad helped me build, a peg board, photo boxes and (once again) jars to keep things in their spot.
Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?
I try to stick to a tight budget so in order to save money on organizing supplies I use old pickle, spice and jelly jars to hold supplies. I clean them out, take off the labels and spray paint the lids. I also find pegboard to be a great space saver and an affordable organizing option. I purchased one large sheet of pegboard and cut it down to four square pieces so that I can use it in multiple spaces.
Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?
My favorite possessions are the items my dad helped me build and make this space truly unique. He helped me build the sawhorse desk and the shelves in my craft closet. They make the space one-of-a-kind and show my personality.
How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?
I am inspired by things I see in magazines. There is something about flipping through a magazine that I will always love. I found myself with a pretty big stack of magazines so I started cutting out the things that catch my eye and storing them in a binder on my desk. Whenever I need inspiration I open it up.
Where do you look for inspiration?
I try to find inspiration in odl books and magazines, color pallets and my own family memories and traditions.
If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?
1. I would add onto the sawhorse desk wrapping it around the room and getting rid of the mission style desk. (stay tuned - this wish might just become reality over the next 6 months... fingers crossed)
2. Since my kids sometimes use my space to draw and create I wish I had a fun way to display their artwork which could be easily updated and changed out.
