We go behind the scenes at Tea Rose Home to tour Sachiko's sewing room in Provo, Utah.

This is very close to the dream sewing room I always imagined to have someday. First I love where it is located, which is on the main floor right off the living room. I can still be present for the kids, but I can close the French doors to get some privacy if I need to. I also love the hardwood floor, it is so easy to clean the sewing messes, and I can roll around the room in my chair.

When I need a bit more extra room, I can open up the French doors to use the hallway as part of the room as well.

Tell us about your space

The room is 11' x 13 '. For years I shared a small room with my husband's computer workspace. Having my own dedicated space was a dream come true! I love to sew, craft and make jewelries in my space. Everything I need is there within reach. It is so much more efficient.

What have you done to make your space cosy, beautiful or inspiring?

I would love to keep the space clutter free, but I allow myself to decorate my sewing space with things that I find at thrift stores and things I make. For example, a small vintage suite case is perfect to store my washi-tapes and pleasing to the eyes. I also reupholstered an old chair to serve as a "guest chair" with my favorite fabric and trims. I found an old large picture frame that I used to make my inspiration board!

How do you keep organized?

It took days for me to make up my mind and organize the room, so I want to keep it that way for a long time. Everything has it's place. I try to clean up right after I am done with a project before moving on to the next. Though it is hard sometimes....

Any tips & tricks for organising supplies?

I had a long time to plan for my sewing room, I pretty much knew that I needed to organize my space. It is important to know your space, what you have and how you want to organize it. Measure the room, closet, and where you want the shelves. Then measure each shelf and cupboards. Carry the measurements and a measuring tape everywhere you go. Then you would know exactly what you can buy when you see something. I bought most of my furniture and bins from IKEA. They were perfect for what I was looking for and the price was decent.
When the time came to actually organize the supplies, I sorted them by items, colors, sizes and such. You might need to switch them around to know what would suit you the best, but that is also part of the fun in creating your room! :)

Which are your favourite possessions and are there any of your own creations on display?

I have too many favorites to only name a few! One of my most favorite things I purchased is low drawers with wheels from IKEA. I can store it away under the desk, I can pull it out to do my jewelry making while the table top is not available, and I can use it as a small ironing board next to my sewing table while I am piecing quilt blocks.

How do you organise your inspiration and ideas?

Different places. In my note book, iPad, or inspiration board.

Where do you look for inspiration?

Everything I see can be an inspiration for the next project. Sometimes they are in nature, sometimes in stores, or books. It is more important for me to be in the right state of mind to be inspired and see the beauty in things.

If you had three wishes, what would you do to make it the dream space?

I know I should be grateful with what I already have and I am, but a girl with many different interests can never have too big of a room right?

I don't need three wishes, I only need one...

I would love to have bigger space. So I can separate the cutting table and sewing table. Also I would like to have the space so that my quilting frame can be out all the time.
