I once got a good deal on a sewing machine at my local thrift shop. $19.50. It was a great starter machine. But at the time it me and my room mate went half on it cause we were both prego at the time and was in full nesting mode , when she moved she took it with her so I was with out a sewing machine till my daughter turned two when my parents bought me one for christmas.

But if i had it my way I would of paid the difference to keep the one we got from the thrift store cause it was really old and pink looking Happy

A thrift store seems like a good idea. Also, if your town/city has a noticeboard, people may be selling one. Check out garage sales, too. You might get lucky and find a real gem!!
And I know what you're saying. I'm an awful sewer, as well. Or at least, my sewing machine is awful (the stupid thread gets tangled every ten seconds). I'd love to be able to sew all these cool shirts I see other people make!! I feel if I got the chance, I could really develop a new hobby Tongue
EDIT: Right after I posted this, decided to confront my parents about our piece of junk for a sewing machine. We came to the decision that they'll either get me a cheap one or go half and half on one for Christmas. Fun! So, if you sweet talk parents or relatives, you might be able to get something out of it Tongue
