Art Appreciation for 1st Grade

I've just been asked to help in a local elementary school to explore art once a month and create an art project.
Any hints or tips would be most welcome !
It's a Spanish immersion class so it would be great to link this in.

I did something like this with 4-5th grade kids.

We learned about African Masks and the way they are used to express in dance, and made our own out of paper, feathers, twine, and straw. Then we hung them up gallery style the kids loved it!

Well I thought and I've just visited the Art cupboard.
We're going to explore all the ATC's-just counted and I have 42! I've received over the past two years on the mat, exploring line, form, color, texture and all the elements of art.
Then they are going to make their own.

batik, with blue gel glue. have the kids make designs on the fabric with glue, once dry they can add color with fabric paint, then when you wash, the glue goes away and the designs stay Happy
