Hair Dying Fun & Games

I know this probably belongs in the beauty section but I figured I'd start a thread off here too for people to share their funny hair dying stories.
Also what do people do while they are waiting for the colour to develop?
I'm just touching up roots at the moment, so hence the interest.

I've got so used to bleaching and dyeing my hair that I just carry on with my normal stuff while the colour's developing.

In my youth, while skint I have coloured my hair with food colouring which is fine - until it rains=)

I've got a terrible knack for forgetting the dye is on and completely loosing track of time. My bf has got me using e.ggtimer.com now so I can set an alarm for when to when its time to wash it out.
In my goth days I used to stain my lips with food dye Happy

Mine normally ends up being on an hour or so cos I get distracted lol.
I think the worst thing about dyeing my hair is having to coat my neck, ears and face with vaseline, it's a shocker to try and get off again and I always end up with a vaselined phone. If I don't use it though I'd have purple ears etc for a month=/

I always find I get hair dye on the bottom of the shelf over our bathroom sink and I could never work out how. Last night I cracked it! - I always find myself cleaning all the dye out of the sink when I first put it in but forget that my head is covered in it! What I seem to do is end up banging my head or resting it on the shelf while I reach round to get behind the taps. It always puzzled me how I always got it there so mystery solved Happy
I think I've mentioned this story before, but one of my funniest hair dying moments was when I was dying my hair blue. I went to bed with slightly wet hair and woke up with blue all over one side of my face. It looked like bruising! I got most of it off but not all so had to go round town the next day with it still under my eye and under my ear and a small patch on my cheek. It was really odd as people were doing that odd staring thing where they're clearly staring but if you look up they pretend they're not. I must have looked like I'd been in a fight or something.
Also last autumn my sister got married and I decided to top my roots up the day before. The dye I use now I'd never had a scalp dying experience with but, sods law, the night before my sisters wedding I had this massive orange band across my forehead! I got it off eventually with tons of aqueous cream on cotton wood but it seemed never ending.

I add to my redness with one of the XXL ranges. It looks like a murder has taken place in the bathroom after. At the moment I can't do any root fixing because of my arm but their is nooooo way my teenage daughter is getting her hands on me. Last time she decided to go platinum blonde she didn't leave it long enough and ended up orange with blonde highlights. I told her with the amount of red in her hair she would have to strip the colour out first, but being a teenager she didn't listen.....LOL

My worst experience was with an electric blue colour. It looked cool but totally clashed with anything I wore unless it was black!

I've had green tinges, pink stripes and once looked like a tabby cat.......but these are distant memories of the miss spent pocket money of youth Happy

Kat....that blue tinged face story reminds me of my friend who decided to dye her hair black. All her facial hair got dyed too so she ended up looking like she had a five o'clock shadow. It was worse because she is fair skinned. She shaved it!!!!!

Think I will stick to red now.....LOL

I wrap my hair in a plastic bag while the dye's on, I shudder to think what kind of mess I'd be in if I didn't=)

I used to have a really short platinum crop which I got done at the hairdresser, one time he didn't think it was white enough (though it looked fine to me) and he wouldn't let me leave the salon until he was happy with it. Which meant going through the whole bleaching process again. My poor scalp was crying. Hair looked good though=)

My funniest time was when I wanted my hair to be like a gingery brown, so I bleached it and dyed it orange first just to see how that looked (horrid). Ooh I have photos too! Orange hair -

So then I tried to put brown hair dye over it. And for some mysterious reason, it went this colour:

The brown streak is from when I had a black streak in my hair and it hadn't come out yet, but yeah, it mostly went green. I kept it green for a while, then dyed brown over it again so it went a murky brown (no photos of this). Eventually bleached it again, dyed it brown and then put orange over the brown and ended up with this:

which was the colour I originally wanted but it only lasted like one wash. Then I just kept it blonde cause I was sick of dyes messing up haha.

Although I'm really trying to get it red now, and I've used both Pillarbox Red and Poppy Red and they're both PINK!

That's the orange my daughter's hair went when she tried to go platinum and she ended up with streaks too. I love the colour in your last photo. If you are planning on red try the Swarzkoff XXL range. They are a bit more gentle for people who sometimes have problems with scalp burning sensations and they have a really good conditioner in too. The coverage is really good, even on previously dyed hair and it lasts Happy I keep away from Clairol as it's really harsh on my hair.

Oh Schwarzkopf stuff doesn't work at all on my hair, it's horrible. I just use Directions and it's normally good.

I haven't tried Directions.....how is it for sensative skin?

I always use directions now and it's fine on my eczema prone skin. I'm allergic to a lot of stuff but have never had a prob with that.
It stains like a bitch though so make sure you cover anything you don't want dyeing to match your hair=)

Haha yeah it stains like crazy! Pinks are the absolute worst for staining as well.

I like Directions because it seems to condition the hair at the same time, so it takes away some of the nastiness of bleaching.
