My new craft desk (ideas welcome)

Soooo....now that I'm all moved into my apartment...I have two bedrooms and only one of me....so my extra room is my craft room. It is in need of a craft desk. And since I'm messy and don't want to get a super new one...I'm thinking of something that could get dirty and I won't panic that I just spent tons of money on it. Sooo...why not make it into a craft project!?

Here's my thoughts....

2 file cabinets (2drawers)

Options for desktop:
An old door or a new door
Full length mirros (I'm thinking I'll need two, but don't know how I'll make it work)
A wood slab

All additional ideas are welcome!! Hee hee!!

I'm so excited can ya tell!?

Ooooh a new craft space. You'll need lots of storage to remember access is everything.I have A-frame legs which hold labeled shoe boxes of fabric and paper for easy access.Pots for pens, rulers and the all important exacto knives.I also recently acquired a printers type set from the thrift shop with i use for display of pins and don't laugh but I keep my fav threads there to.I have a small collection of baskets which stack and contain fibres and one for ribbons.I keep beads in tiny boxes on the top so there close at hand.
Enjoy your space and have fun ;-)

yeah. Its a blog. She rounds up all kinds of tutorials and stuff. There are some on there where people make their own desks too.

I had a simple big old teachers desk in a corner. I could store boxes and roll out draws under it and had box shelving along the wall parts. It had loads of storage space and room to work.

So I see you've found something already...but for future reference, yard sales and the Goodwill/Salvation Army are excellent places to find things. I also love to shop these places for vintage fabrics I can salvage from funky dresses, curtians...and even bed sheets. I made a beautiful dress from a funky floral, yellow sheet and it was only 2 bucks! ;)

It's good that you found something, so long as you find something inexpensive, whether that be from charity shops or ask round friends and family to see if they have a desk they want to get rid of etc.

I think this desk looks good:

When I get mine done what I might do is get 2 or 3 small plastic and then some old doors or offcut of wood and put them together lol

Try getting an old ratty desk on Craigslist and Decoupaging it. The surface is waterproofed that way and it can take a lot of abuse. Print out pictures that you like or cut them out of books and magazines and make a beautiful and durable work surface that you can also show off a bit. The decoupage ideas are endless!

Wow, the one from IKEA hackers is awesome, and the one Lolly.Bot showed is amazing too. I don't have a crafting desk, or room, I actually got a small room, it's actually a garrett, or mansard, or whatever they call it Tongue I work on my bed, which drives everyone crazy except me- my boyfriend hates to find all kinds of scraps and pieces in the bed, and sadly I made holes on one or two sheets - uuuups.
Maybe if we move I'll be able to get a nice craft desk tooHappy And I don't want to live in a mansard again, I have no straight walls, can't put up paintings, just posters, no shelves, etc...
