Food colouring

I really want t to try rainbow cupcakes again, but the food colouring I used was awful. I ended up using whole bottles and the colour still came out weak and ugly instead of vibrant. What brand/type of food colouring does everyone recommend for using to colour actual cake mixes please?

I use WIlton gel colours for cake mix, cookies, icing and fondant. Works fine for me. And since it's gel it doesn't add to the amount of fluid in your cake batter, but still creates a nice color.

Late but I also use Wilton gel colours. Here is a picture of how the colours came out. I only used a drop for each layer:

I used cheap grocery store (Safeway, or I think Vons in SoCal.....is this chain only in California?) brand with white cake (4-6 drops per layer) and it turned out alright
