Hair Dye

im going to school for cosmetolgy and the biggest thing we stress about color is that color doesn't color over artificial color. if you've died your hair and want to go a different color, depending on what your level is and what level you want to go you will have to pre-lighten your hair. and be careful what kind of color products you use. especially if your getting your chemically treated like hair perming or relaxing. if you try to use vegetable or metallic dyes and then have your hair chemically treated, theres a goodchance your hair will break off where your line of demarkation is. vegetable and metallic dyes can often be very damaging to your hair even without having it chemically treated. also if your having trouble with your hair taking color, check out your shampoo. lots of shampoos that aren't professional will coat your hair in a waxy substance if your a longtime user. which will make it impossible for your hair to take and keep color. your best options with shampoo really is to get the professional salon stuff. It might cost a couple bucks more then the shampoo you currently buy but in the long run its worth it. non-professional shampoos have a greater percentage of water in the mix then professional does[since professional doesn't have as much water you don't need as much to wash your hair]. And like i said before, non professional can coat your hair with a waxy substance [which can only be removed by cutting off the hair or bleaching it a bit.] So the profesional stuff is healthier and will last longer since its not mostly water and won't coat your hair.

I've been dying my hair since I was maybe 12 and I'm 17 now. I'm not the smartest when it comes to hair dye because I just do it every now and then. I haven't recently though, I've finally managed to get my hair healthy again. I've stopped dying it red, bleached it blonde and have left it this way.

Red was the hardest color to get out of my hair, it took about 3 months to get the tint completely out.

I dyed my hair purple in 8th grade with a semi-permanent color and it never really washed out completely. I still had purple hair after months, I dyed it burgendy though afterwards.

I want to bleach my hair, and everyone wants me to do it except my mum! I might wait till autumn or winter though, in the summer everyone has blonde hair, and I think it looks great with black clothes (which I wear a lot more in the winter)
