Spring cleaning - your best tips?

Now it's the New Year I'm getting really in to organising, tidying and de-cluttering the house. I've been scanning all of my Christmas cards, tickets I've saved from holidays and little mementos so that I could throw them out. I've also been taking photographs of old toys and mementos I've found it hard to let go of and found that having a nice photo is just as good!

Anyway, I was wondering what some of your de-cluttering and organising tips were? I'll share more with you guys too x

I'm busy cleaning too.
I bought 3 large plastic boxes to put my paint-stuff, knitting-stuff and paper in. And I bought several little baskets to put smaller stuff in like ribbons, notepads & scissors, ironing beads. All my finished projects I want to sell I put in a big cardboard box and in my storage-closet.

But I'm still not even halfway there.. :-/

Erm I don't really have any tips other than to be ruthless and get rid of stuff you really don't want or need. Get boxes and put stuff you want in one and don't in another or get boxes and put the room lables on it and put stuff in the boxes that belong in other rooms -- I watch a lot of kim & aggie and kim's rude awakening when I need some cleaning motivation...

I start from the top of the house and work down, then I take down the netting and pop them in the washing machine first and carry on clearing the room, open the windows and let the air in! You can put the nets back up wet.
I hoover the seat cushions on any couches etc, then clean the carpets with cleaning solution, I dust down the curtains or wash them if you can. I move the stuff that doesn't belong in each room at the time so I can put it away when I get to the relevant room. I also listen to ALOT of music that makes me want to dance!

When it comes to organizing for me, the Dollar Store is my best friend. They usually have stackable organizers that I've been using to separate markers from pencils and paper and so forth. They also sometimes have crates that are stackable AND collapsible and they're a huge help because they don't take up much space when you crush them down.

When I get down to dusting and actually cleaning, I avoid the citrus-scented cleaners and use unscented or "fresh scent" cleaners. Also, carpet powder makes a huge difference in cleaning because it spreads a nice, subtle scent around as you vaccuum it up.

I work one room at a time. So I pick my living room, and I spend a week getting it organized, then I move on to another.
