Alphabet chart - help with words!

Hi everyone,
I'd appreciate any help/ideas you can give me here and I know you're a creative bunch! My goddaughter will be 2 next month and I'm making her an alphabet chart. I'm appliqueing pictures onto 6" fabric squares which I'll then sew together to make a patchwork wall hanging. The letters will be made separately and have velcro on the back, each square will have a velco strip to attach the letters to. I've done Apple and Bird so far and have plenty of ideas for most of the letters, but some I'm stumped on!

Please bear in mind I can't draw, I've got to cut out and sew the peaces of each picture so simplicity is the key, they are fairly small. Can you suggest anything for the following letters?

G (I had thought of giraffe but would prefer something that sounds like "g" as a child would say it - like gate or goose)
J
K
N
V
W
X
Y
Z

Any suggestions?
thanks
BG.

Jam/Jelly
King/Kangaroo
Nose/Nuts
Van/Vase
Window/Whale
Xylophone (it's a classic)
Yacht
Zebra

Hope these help, I left G cos gate and goose seem ok to me=)

Hiya,

Thanks for the ideas... only problem is I don't think I can applique any of them, except Whale which I'll be using... I can't draw you see and I definitely can't do a zebra or a kangaroo!!

Maybe it'll help if I tell you what I've got:

Apple
Bird
Car
Dog
Elephant
Flower
House
Icecream
Ladybird
Mouse
Owl
Penguin
Queen?? Might have to do a crown
Rabbit
Sheep
Tree
Umbrella

All simple and/or I have an applique pattern!

If you're having trouble with a pattern, look for a coloring book that has many of the pictures that you need. The drawings are simple and can be reduced to size. Maybe that helps? I don't do appliqué, but it seems to me this might be an easy and cheap way to get the drawings you need.??

Oh no, Laurel, don't be angry with me. I liked your ideas and now Dessah has suggested colouring books/pages, I might be able to do some of them! Thank you
