then 20 years later everyone goes 'wow that looks shit now' and it gets replaced by something else. I'm not originally from this town but have been here from 7 months old and it is a LOT different to what it was like when my mum and dad got here I think we got the first proper shopping centre the year we moved here and recently it got a whole new shopping centre, it's just like everywhere else now and even the 'alternatives' are just normal idiots in black.

That seemed relavent!

lol I know what you mean QueenFP, I'm new to Iceland, but they are tearing down their quaint and quirky little corrugated houses, left and right! To build-of course!- shopping centres and more uber expensive apartments that only a few people can afford.
They are knocking down this whole block, that contains a gorgeous little organic-free trade coffee house and Sirkus, an odd little bar that was featured in Bjorks video Triumph of the Heart. I don't go there as it's way too scene for me, but still it's a historical building and the street will just be boring now Happy

aaaw cool, well maybe not if they're knocking it down!!! We still have loads of original tudor bits on buildings and I don't think they'd get rid of those, theres not much more to add now except for a woolworths.

I know we are treading off topic here, but the one thing I do love about Reykjavik, is that downtown there are no McD's or Big fast food places! Well there is a subway, but I hate that less. You have to go to the mall to get a crappy burger ;) So it's all local chains downtown Happy

It's sort of on topic! How come I know how to say Reykjavik!!!? I only get chips from these sort of places now and I'm glad because I was getting sick of mcdonalds can only actually have chips now too...and subway it's alright but I don't get the big deal its got a lot of caleries and its just sandwiches!!!! same as starbucks, just expensive coffee but I do like peppermint hotchocolate but can only afford to spend 4 quid on a hot chocolate and a brownie every once in a while!

I looove Subway, and a veggie sub is only like 200 calories so it's not too bad =)

I think as long as you only get the half sub and limit sauces it's less fattening. They have an Icelandic sub place that is way nicer than the "subway" one.
You say Reykjavík like this: rake-ya-veek and you kina roll the r at the beginning, but I can't do that so people never understand me here haha

I don't remember the name, but I love the caramel coffee with lots of cream from Starbucks, I love them when I go to London, but I hope they dont bring them over here. The coffee shops here are mostly local and very nice Happy

we now have a starbucks and a cafe nero and there was just one coffee shop and some tea rooms before and the coffee shop will probably go out of business...we have two subways within a ten minutes walk of each other its ridiculous!

is Reykjavík the capital or a really popular place, thats how I must know how to say it!

I detest starbucks, i had a very favorite bookstore i use to go to, the only one in my town with craft books and they tore it down for the damn starbucks. I miss my bookstore Happy

And it sucks about the market, I've never been to London, not likely ever will because of money, but i hate it when place burn down with memories. We had a huge fire wreck the only historical buildings in our town, and half of the area it was on before it was stopped. Devesated our small town.

I go to Starbucks a lot, but that's because it's the only coffee shop open late around where I stay. They can be really annoying though, like they'll start staking chairs on top of tables several hours before closing time and then, when they are closing, come up and sharply tell you to get out- "we're closed now", even though they sold you a coffee a couple of minutes earlier.

We have other coffee shops in our town, i go the them. Just cause i refuse to support a business the wipes out small business.

Reykjavík is the capital yes Happy

I rarely go out, but if I do the place we go to serves their coffee in thermal flasks! It's pretty cool, coz usually its me and the other half and we order two black coffees and get a 1 ltr flask for 500kr which is 7.34$ and 3.80£ and free net for your laptop of course ;)
