Hahaha I am like that too. Although I have been making them since I was in primary school ;) (that around 16years ago now that I started) Whenever I'm bored and a scrap piece of paper is in front of my it quickly becomes a crane. I was the phantom crane maker at work at one point ;) (I worked at the newspaper press site so there was LOTS of scrape paper to go around hahaha)

Yes, it can be very fun.

I like to make them as gifts -by either stringing them as a mobile or large ones as simple fun toys for kids (especially the cranky ones!). For some reason, when children notice your piece of paper is turning into something they can recognize, it becomes very interesting and fun.

I love to make them, I will sometimes spend a few hours making them while I listen to music or watch a movie.

Origami cranes are awesome, I learned how to make them when I was 9 years old. But it's been several years since I folded the last crane, I might start again. Especially because it's a Japanese belief that making 1000 cranes will grant you a wish ;)
